Jujuy is in the northeast of Argentina, and thanks to it’s mountain terrain it gives us five very well differentiated eco regions: ALTOS ANDES - PUNA - PRE PUNA– YUNGAS – CHACO – giving us a great diversity of sceneries and cultural
The province has approximately 550 sp. of birds which amount to the 54% of the total of the country.
PORTAL DE PIEDRA:
Is located in the Sta Barbara district at the oriental side of the Andes, (sub Andean. In the little locality of Villa Monte, where the newly created Provincial Reserve Las Lancitas is; the only one in Argentina that protects two different environments: the Yungas of amazonic dominion and the Chaco Serrano; it is a subtropical mountain jungle (having a short dry season during the beginning of spring) it’s one of the environments that have the major biodiversity in Argentina. For bird lovers there are over 300 species, this mountain range is isolated from the main Andean chain so it behaves as a “mountain island” as a result it has a unique fauna. It too is a natural biological corridor for two National Parks (the Calilegua of Jujuy province and the Rey of Salta province)
